LCD TVs spearhead growth in Q1. Air-conditioners and LCD TVs came to the rescue of the electrical-goods industry in the first quarter, spurring growth for manufacturers at a time when consumers are tightening their purse strings. Appliance makers including Toshiba, Mitsubishi, Panasonic, LG and Samsung recorded unexpectedly high growth rates of between 6% and 26% during the period, compared to 5% for the overall industry.

Experts cut export growth estimates
(TNA) – The country’s exports for this year are expected to grow only 9.46 per cent to US$142.47 billion, lower than targeted earlier by the Commerce Ministry, due to the baht volatility, global economic slowdown, oil price rise, and unrest in the country, according to a leading academic. Record short-term rice sales for Vietnam
Hanoi (Agencies) - Vietnam, which trails Thailand as the world's second biggest rice exporter, on Wednesday announced plans to ship a record three million tons of rice by the end of June - although it cannot keep up the pace all year. The first-half exports would be up 5.5 percent from the same period last year, according to Vietnam's state-controlled media.
