OOCL Logistics News Notices - Kaohsiung, Taiwan/Xiamen, China - Typhoon Meranti - September 14, 2016
September 14, 2016
OOCL Logistics offices in Taiwan and the East Coast of China have been closely monitoring Typhoon Meranti over the past few days. According to details from Weather.com, link here, the storm center did not make a direct hit on Taiwan, passing south of the island.
Weather.com also reports that “As of Wednesday morning (US EDT), or Wednesday evening China time, Meranti was centered southwest of Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Maximum sustained winds were estimated to be 180 mph, according to the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC). Recent satellite imagery suggests the system is weakening and winds are now lower than this, however.”
According to Weather.com “The center of Meranti will move on a path that will likely take it inland near Xiamen, China, early Thursday morning local time” (Wednesday afternoon U.S. time).
OOCL Logistics Taiwan reported overnight that there was little impact to Taiwan, as Meranti made landfall in far southern Taiwan. The OOCL Logistics offices in Kaohsiung and port were closed yesterday local time and as they had advanced cut-offs to Monday this week, to manage the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday period (through the end of this week), shipments were processed smoothly without delays.
OOCL Logistics Headquarters in Hong Kong advises today that Typhoon Meranti is not expected to have any significant impact on Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Shanghai or Ningbo. Heavy rain is expected in the coming days but all operations are reporting normal.
OOCL Logistics Xiamen reports that our offices were closed early at 14:00 local time today (September 14) and that they will resume working on September 18, 2016 after the Mid-Autumn Day holiday break (September 15th to 17th). Additionally they report that Xiamen terminals closed at 12:00 hours local time on the 14th until further notice.
